Izvleček
V obdobju gramofonskih plošč z 78 obrati na minuto, približno v letih 1900–1955, je nastalo vsaj pol milijona različnih posnetkov iz večino dežel sveta. Članek obravnava rast te industrije, izbiro izvajalcev in njihov repertoar, arhiviranje zgodovinskih posnetkov ter njihov pomen za muzikološka raziskovanja. Mnogi posnetki so verjetno za vedno izgubljeni, ohranjeni primeri pa so razpršeni v številnih zasebnih in javnih arhivih; upamo lahko, da bodo spletni katalogi v prihodnosti omogočili večji dostop do tega gradiva.
Abstract
During the era of 78 rpm shellac records, circa 1900 to 1955, at least half a million different records were produced in most countries of the world. This paper discusses the growth of the industry, the selection of artists and repertoire, the archiving of historical recordings, and their significance for musicological research. Many recordings are probably permanently lost and surviving examples are scattered across many private and public archives, but online catalogues will hopefully make this material more accessible in the future.
